Philadelphia Wedding Brawl Turns Deadly - Crime in the News ...

Posted on 17:17 by Unknown

An uncle of the bride died following a massive Philadelphia wedding brawl that required police to issue an all-hands-on-deck call.

In the posh Society Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia, at least two wedding groups allegedly went at it in the Sheraton Hotel, reports CBS.

Dozens of people were reportedly involved and the brawl spilled out into the streets early Sunday morning. To no surprise, police believe that alcohol played a role in the massive fight.

When all was said and done, a 57-year-old guest was dead, one person was charged with assaulting a police officer, and two other men were arrested but released with no charges, reports CBS. Police are still investigating the incident and additional charges may be pending.

The guest who died apparently died of a heart attack outside the reception. It is not known if he was actually involved in the fights. But if there is evidence linking the victim to a combatant, it will be interesting to see if anyone is charged with murder or manslaughter.

Generally, prosecutors may make the claim that a combatant killed the victim either by striking or scaring the victim. The argument may be that the victim would be alive today if not for the actions of the perpetrator.

However, with the help of a good criminal defense attorney, someone charged with manslaughter or murder may have a valid defense that they should not be liable for all injuries that happened. For example, if the victim had a heart condition, it may be unreasonable to charge the perpetrator with manslaughter if his actions would not have killed a reasonably healthy man.

The deadly Philadelphia wedding brawl follows a spate of violent wedding parties. In Arizona, a groom initiated an all-out brawl after uninvited guests were dancing provocatively with his new bride. And in Pennsylvania, a couple never even made it to the altar when the bride-to-be allegedly stabbed her groom-to-be to death following a fight.
